Q; How long have you lived out west?
My parents were teachers, so we spent the academic year in a Chicago suburb and our summers in the old mining town of Morgan, WY with no running water or phone. Once a week we’d head to Laramie to call the grandparents, do laundry, grocery shop and pick up our General Delivery mail. One summer I stayed to attend the University of Wyoming and have called Wyoming “home” ever since.
Q:
What is your favorite Western book?
The Meadow, by James Galvin. Amazingly crafted story, beautiful southeast Wyoming lands, and people I adore.
Q:
What attracted you to a career in conservation?
As a young child I would say the Lord’s Prayer and the Ranger Rick Pledge before going to bed – so I think it was inevitable! The opportunity to make a difference in what I love most about Wyoming and our people – our deep commitment and connection to the land – was one I couldn’t pass up.
Q:
What outdoor activities do you enjoy?
Road biking and mountain biking, hiking, gardening, rodeo, watching my nieces’ and nephews’ sporting events, driving through Wyoming’s beautiful open spaces, and just sitting – sometimes with a spotting scope.
In what community organizations or activities to do you participate?
Wyoming Women’s Foundation board, the University of Wyoming Art Museum National Advisory Board, Cheyenne Frontier Days volunteer, PEO.
Q:
What is your favorite animal and why?
Besides the Great Pyrenees and the Great Pyr/Aussie cross that are typically within scratching distance, the Pronghorn Antelope. Wyoming is a special place for them, they go under when most others go over, and the mommas raise their babies where we humans get to share in the joy.
Q:
What do you like best about your job?
Amazingly talented, dedicated & thoughtful co-workers, meeting new people and learning from them, and the opportunity to make an important difference in Wyoming – in perpetuity is a long time!
