Q: What is your favorite animal and why?
Golden Eagle – For it’s strength, intensity, perseverance, and ability to soar to great heights – The gold eagle, to me, represents the true spirit of the West.
Q: How long have you lived out West?
20 Great Years – I went to high school in Colorado; worked on a horse ranch in New Mexico; on to college, cattle ranches, and marriage in Montana; college again in Wyoming; work in Colorado then Utah; and finally back home here to Wyoming.
Q: What’s your best tip for living in Wyoming?
Take refuge in the wildly diverse open spaces, find outdoor activities you will enjoy for each of our 2 seasons: winter and mosquitoes, and of course, maintain a healthy sense of humor…
Q:
What do you like best about your job?
Working with such a great team of staff and donors dedicated to conserving Wyoming’s open-spaces.
Q:
What outdoor activities do you enjoy?
Touring the countryside, rock-hounding, riding horses, working cattle and appreciating Wyoming’s landscapes through the lens of my camera.
Q:
What are your favorite Western movies?
She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and The Cowboys – who doesn’t love a good John Wayne film?!
Q:
In what organizations or activities do you participate?
Currently, I serve as the President of the Wyoming Section of the Society for Range Management (SRM) – a professional non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to the conservation and sustainable management of rangelands for the benefit of current societies and for future generations through leadership and education.
Q:
What attracted you to a career in conservation?
I fell in love with the people and the landscape and feel an urgent need to apply my strengths and training to the conservation of Western ecosystems and the way of life.
I especially like working with, and assisting folks in finding common-ground, and have a vested interest in making certain that resource issues are resolved with a common-sense approach.
Q:
What are your favorite Western books?
Pretty much anything by Zane Grey, especially Wyoming and Riders of the Purple Sage. Other favorites include The Haunted Mesa by Louis L’Amour and With Wolfe in Canada by G.A. Henty (I love to read, so is hard to choose just one!).
